Poker represents a version of gambling or, more precisely, the whole series of card plays. In Poker play all over the world, however it has got the greatest popularity in the North America.
At one distribution to each player in Poker five cards are given. Players try to pick up a combination from two or more cards of one lead, make sequences of five cards, that is they carry out a consecutive set of cards of one lead or simply select any five cards of one lead.
Basically, Poker is a money-based game; it can be played only as gambling. Each delivery of cards is a separate game, or party, with the set of the rates, named bank, which is a receptacle of rates (both preliminary - antes, and usual - bets) on the given game. Players aspire to win all contents of bank, or to finish party with the least losses, if to win it is impossible. There can be one or several rounds of increase of preliminary rates. After the termination of last round the remained players open available card hands. All money from bank, including rates of those players which have left game after earlier rounds of increase of rates, arrives in the order of the player with the best combination of cards on hands or, in some variants of game, is distributed between several players. The player can bluff, pretending, that he has the best cards though knows, that it mismatches the validity. He even can win, if other players, despite the, actually, the best cards, will not risk to resist.
It is known, that the first games from family Poker are noted in Europe about what there are mentions in the literature for 1526. Now five cards play in Poker, and in that, early, Poker on hands handed over on three cards, and game «primero» in Spain and in Italy and «la prime» - in France was called. Game included the announcement of rates, and estimated combinations were: three identical cards, steams, and also three cards of one lead named flush.
In 1700 appeared by then bluffing has united with the announcement of rates and delivery on hands not three, but five cards, and games began to be called Brag in England, Pochen in Germany and Poque in France. In these predecessors of game in Poker bluffing, or the announcement of the high rate at presence on hands of bad cards to achieve losses of other players, was the important element. It is quite probable, that the French name «Poque» is a mould from German, and the name “poker” occurs from French.
Game Poker was delivered to America by the French colonists who have occupied at first territory of Louisiana, extended then upwards on the river Missouri and all over the country. Poker itself is mentioned for the first time in 1829 in memoirs of English actor Joe Kauela traveling across America. In 1834 in Poker began to play a pack from 52 cards. The first mention of these memoirs concerns 1858 in the collection of gambling games, however in it is spoken about Poker as already about old game. Doubtless rough interest to Poker concerns times of civil war when in it soldiers of both conflicting parties actively played.
In games Brag, Pochen and Poque there was only one round of the announcement of rates. Disclosing of cards - display by all players of cards available on hands for detection won - occurred right after the terminations of this round. The seniority of hands was defined by the following sequence: four identical (high); the full house - (full house - three identical and pair of others); three identical; two pairs; one steam and absence of pair (high card - the senior card on a rank undertakes in calculation). A seniority of cards of one lead on decrease: an as (the senior card), the king, the lady, a jack, ten etc. To the end, to the two. No seniority between leads existed and does not exist now.
